Basic Work Zone Safety Certification
 
This course provides training to properly recognize and install work zones to perform daily maintenance or short-term operations.  Emphasis is placed based on work zone traffic control.  This course focuses on the different devices and how to effectively install and maintain them.
 
Modules include Liability and Risk, Work Zone Types, Traffic Control Devices, Worker Safety and Flagger Operations, Building WZ Skills, Making Adjustments to TTC.
 
The successful candidate will achieve a 4-year certification as well as a 4-year Flagging Certification.
 
VDOT requires that one person in the setup, maintenance or removal crew possess the Basic Work Zone Safety Certification.
 
The student should achieve a passing grade of 70 on the 50-question open book exam.
 
A copy of the Pocket Guide is recommended for the student while taking the course as well as practical usage after.  These can be purchased from ATSSA here.
