VDOT Work Zone Designer (AWZ)
This course is required by VDOT for all people designing or reviewing work zone plans and development of Traffic Management Plans.
This course is a basic overview of what needs to be included in the plan and drawings. It also presents with a view of the user (construction supernatant or inspector) needs.
There is no prerequisite; however, the Intermediate Work Zone Certification is highly recommended to give the designer a better understanding of actual field views and usage.
The student should achieve a passing grade of 70 on the 40-question open book exam.
This is a “stand alone” certification and is not in the hierarchy of field certifications. requirements.
